Pre-Application Activities:  Understanding the College Search

Guiding students through self-assessment activities should give them idea of their current skills, interests, values, and personality traits and how these characteristics can translate into a career. By now, they should also have an idea of the training and/or education involved in pursuing that career.

This section contains resources for helping students

  • discover options for postsecondary training
  • explore college search websites
  • find out more about schools by visiting and attending college fairs
  • organize all of the data they collect from these activities

An overview of each of these activities and tools for students to use are included in this section.
